PD Dr. Philipp Stämpfli, head of the MR Center, Dr. Mike Brügger, and Dr. Nuno Prates de Matos have been awarded with a grant of CHF 594'408 for the project "Neurobiologische Wirkung der Elosan Elektrostatik Anwendung" by Innosuisse. Electrostatic therapy represents a new - to the known therapeutic applications - complementary form of therapy, which can be carried out effectively, with few side effects and inexpensively. The Elosan cabine is a certified medical product especially for therapy of patients suffering from (chronic) pain. The cabin applies an electrostatic field on the whole body. Even though a first clinical study on a chronic pain population confirms a good effectiveness in reducing various chronic pain symptoms, the basic mechanism of the electrostatic application is not known. Thus, the project is dedicated to the investigation of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of the Elosan electrostatic application on the human body and nervous system.
