PD Dr. med. Marcus Herdener, head of the Centre for Addictive Disorders and the Addictive Disorders Research Group, has been awarded with a 4-year grant for the project "Boosting and guiding neuroplasticity by combining ketamine with neurofeedback-assisted learning – towards an individualized and integrated pharmacopsychotherapy for cocaine addiction" by the SNSF. The project is dedicated to the investigation of clinical outcomes and the underlying mechanistic neurobiological processes of a synergistic pharmaco- and psychotherapeutic intervention for patients with cocaine addiction. It builds on previous work from the Addictive Disorders research group on cocaine addiction, and combines ketamine-induced glutamatergic changes and neuroplasticity with neurofeedback-guided reward learning. The project will be supported by its collaborators Prof. Fabrizio Esposito (Naples), Prof. Frank Scharnowski (Vienna), and Dr. Niklaus Zoelch (Zürich).
